We are thrilled to announce our second release of the year! Joy on Fire presents: Three Red Crowns. Available digitally everywhere today! This album had a limited physical release in 2012 under the project name of Three Red Crowns. It truly is an amazing album and we are so thankful to be able to bring it to the masses. This press quote from below sums up Three Red Crowns perfectly "They are a genre baffling orchestra with rock and roll energy backed up by their palpable compositional and instrumental prowess.” Enjoy! <3
THREE RED CROWNS, a nine-piece rock-jazz ensemble, was founded and premiered by JOY ON FIRE's John Paul Carillo and Anna Meadors in 2011. Using Joy on Fire's bass/sax/drum trio as it's foundation, Three Red Crowns expanded in range, color, and sound with the addition of an amplified string quartet, vocals, and piano. The group toured the East Coast of the U.S., including performances at Artscape, The Creative Alliance (Baltimore), and The University of North Carolina, Greensboro. Their first album, originally recorded in 2012 by Mat Leffler-Schulman at Baltimore's Mobtown Studios, received praise from the likes of Ken Thomson (Bang on a Can, Gutbucket) and John Zorn. Now JOY ON FIRE and THREE RED CROWNS are proud to have the record re-released by Tommy Hambleton's PROCRASTINATION RECORDS in 2019. "What a long strange trip it's been!"
Press Quotes
“Three Red Crowns is the brainchild of Anna Meadors and John Paul Carillo and is an up and coming Baltimore project which boasts an unexpected and expansive cast of instrumentalists. Three Red Crowns represents the best of Baltimore’s musical creative class. They are a genre baffling orchestra with rock and roll energy backed up by their palpable compositional and instrumental prowess.”

-Ken Thomson, of Bang on a Can, Gutbucket and Slow/Fast
The Baltimore-based group Three Red Crowns specializes in what one might classify as long-form orchestral rock. The nine-piece band — led by co-composers Linganore High School and Baltimore’s Peabody Institute grad Anna Meadors and former New York City punk rocker John Paul Carillo — frequently plays at festivals, concert halls and other bar/arts venues, like The Windup Space in Baltimore. The group finished recording its first full-length album, “In This Light,” in 2012 and began working on its second, called “If 3 was 8,” in August with hopes to release it in 2014.
